Carpenter on Barbarella?

All you can do with this story is take it with a grain of salt. I’m not even close to really buying it, but it’s fun to speculate about, and makes me interested in a movie I really had no use for before today… Still, it’s just a rumor…

The Sun is reporting, quite casually, that John Carpenter is set to direct BARBARELLA. Now, of course, this is the first anybody has heard of this. Just last week, JOE GASSAM (that can’t be the guy’s real name, can it?) had been assigned to write the screenplay, and it was assumed that Robert Luketic (MONSTER-IN-LAW) was still on board to direct. “The Sun” doesn’t even mention Luketic’s name, simply stating that a film insider told them: “The script is underway and JOHN CARPENTER is set to direct so it’s all about finding the new Barbarella.”

Apparently at the top of the list for the sexy space mercenary: Jessica Alba (who has been mentioned plenty of times in conjunction with the role), Katherine Heigl, and Sienna Miller… I honestly think Miller’s got the right look, but all three are plenty hot, so any of them could work. This isn’t going to be the role that nets them an Oscar, anyway.

So just a little geeky fantasy for you, to take or leave: Carpenter directing kinky, freaky sci-fi with a half-naked babe blasting away aliens and having sex with astronauts – or whatever the hell it is that Barbarella does. Work for you?
