Clancy, Giamatti in Goon?

I’ve never read a single issue of THE GOON, but I know many people who really adore the wacky, violent comic series by Eric Powell. Back in July of last year, we told you that David Fincher had signed on to produce an animated version of the flick (check out a sample of the work above), although it has seemed for a while now like the flick was nowhere near actual production.

That may have changed, however. Quint over at AintItCoolNews ran into Mr. Powell at (where else?) Comic-Con and had a brief chat with the man about where the film currently stands. Powell revealed this juicy tidbit: Two actors have been cast in the lead roles, and have already begun doing voice work. The actors? Couple of dudes named CLANCY BROWN and PAUL GIAMATTI. None too shabby, right?

Of course, there still isn’t a director signed on to the film, so let’s not mark our calendars just yet. We’ll keep you posted when more news rolls on in.

In case you don’t know what THE GOON is about, here’s the rundown: THE GOON is a muscle-bound brawler who claims to be the primary enforcer for the feared mobster Labrazio. The Goon (and his sidekick Franky) often get tied up in other machinations, often in relation to the evil zombie gangs under the command of the Nameless Zombie Priest.
