Here’s a project that could very easily fit into the Action Round Up, but I think it’s worth tossing to the general AITH population, as it sounds like a potential blast.
It’s called ARENA, and it will be directed by Jeff Wadlow. Wadlow directed the low-budget horror flick CRY_WOLF a few years back, and more recently, NEVER BACK DOWN, one of those dumb street fighting movies. This one sounds a bit different.
ARENA revolves around a group of modern-day soldiers transported to a shifting landscape, where they are forced to face off against the best warriors from different eras in gladiatorial battle.
Sounds pretty wild, right? I almost picture a 1980s, Full Moon/Stuart Gordon-type flick. It’s coming from Summit Entertainment, who will have money to throw around thanks to two TWILIGHT movies being released in the next year. The script – by Toby Wagstaff and Darren Howell – was optioned back in the Spring of 2008.
Let’s just hope it turns out to be more GLADIATOR and less “American Gladiators”.
