BARBARELLA is one project that refuses to die, and I’m not entirely sure why. Is the world clamoring for yet another insipid, ridiculous outer space adventure with some tart wearing nothing more than a kinky- okay I’m sold. I totally get it now.
Recently, Robert Rodriguez dropped the project, which he had been attached to for a few years. Reason being that he didn’t want to shoot in Germany, opting instead to NEVER LEAVE AUSTIN TEXAS EVER AGAIN! The search, I guess, is now on for someone else to pick up Barbarella’s moist undies and run with them, and who better than the director of LEGALLY BLOND?!
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that producer Dino De Laurentii (owner of the rights to the original film) is looking at Robert Luketic (who also directed the classic MONSTER-IN-LAW) to helm BARBARELLA, at an unspecified studio. (Universal was attached to the Rodriguez version.)
Rose McGowan, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Alba, and Halle Berry have all once been rumored to be stepping into Barbarella’s…. whatever the f*ck it is she wears. But for a project of this magnitude, I can think of only one person suitable for the task of tackling such an important role…
