Fringe deets!

The last time I wrote about the new J.J. Abrams mindbender FRINGE, I showed you some weird posters promoting the show, due to premiere AUGUST 26 on FOX. Though we’ve known the cast and the general idea of the show (sort’ve X-FILES meets – naturally – LOST) for a while, we’ve been deprived of any real solid details. No surprise really, considering who’s the showrunner, but can we get the basic concept please?!

Oh lookit that, my prayers have been answered. Apparently Fox previewed the show to a group of t.v. writers the other day, and subsequently released some juicy info about the series. BEWARE of spoilers!

When an international flight lands at Boston’s Logan Airport and the passengers and crew have all died grisly deaths, FBI special agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) is called in to investigate.

After her partner, special agent John Scott (Mark Valley), is nearly killed during the investigation, a desperate Olivia searches frantically for someone to help, leading her to Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble), our generation’s Einstein. There’s only one catch: He’s been institutionalized for the last 20 years, and the only way to question him requires pulling his estranged son, Peter (Joshua Jackson), in to help.

Sci Fi Wire goes on to mention that there are a few grisly visual effects to be expected, as well as references to ALTERED STATES and the shows I mentioned above. And in case you were wondering, the title refers to “fringe science”–mind control, teleportation, astral projection, reanimation–which Dunham begins to uncover in the course of her investigation.” Sure sounds like LOST to me!

The show stars Anna Torv (pictured), John Noble, Lance Reddick, and Joshua Jackson (ugh). Let’s hope a teaser commercial for this weirdness isn’t too far down the line.
