[Rec] sequel?!

The first one hasn’t hit our shores yet – neither has the remake for that matter – but it appears the uber-hyped [REC] warrants a sequel, which will be directed by the first one’s duo of Paco Plaza and Jaume Balaguero. [REC] is obviously one of those films that I’ve read so much about I feel like I’ve seen it already – and it’s not due to be released here until later this year (most likely in October, around the same time Sony unleashes its remake, QUARANTINE).

Not much is known about this sequel, which is a good thing because who needs to know what’s going on in the follow-up before seeing the first damn one? Hopefully we’ll avoid major spoilers as we track the progress of this naughty offspring.

Here’s the story of the first film, in case you’re in the dark: While covering the night shift at a small-town fire department, an ambitious young television reporter and her cameraman follow the crew on a call to rescue an elderly woman unable to escape the inferno that is consuming her home. Upon their arrival at the scene, the calm midnight air is pierced by the sound of horrific screams, and the television report takes an unexpectedly dark turn.
