THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR may be shooting right now but co-star Maria Bello took some time to talk about stepping into a role originated by Rachel Weisz.

“She has the same name, but she’s a very different character than Rachel played,” Bello said in an interview. “She’s a bad-ass action chick. I had to train a lot. I had to do wushu, a martial-art form, some kickboxing, swordfighting, rifle training for a couple of months before we even started shooting.” Bello added: “It’s the role of my dreams. It is just a blast.”

Apparently now the character is “more badass” than she was before. Does that mean the character has changed from quirky and cute to tough typical action heroine? If thats the case, than my love only fuels stronger for the first of the series and my distaste for this new film worsens. The film is being directed by Rob “more fire less substance” Cohen and stars Brendan Frasier and Jet-Li as the new mummy. The film opens August 1st, 2008.
