Shock till you Drop has a detailed report on the upcoming spookfest A HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT, and an interview with one of its producers, HALLOWEEN 6 scribe Dan Farrands. Farrands knows a thing or two about hauntings: he directed a couple of doc’s for The History Channel on the true-life Amityville Horror case (he even became friends with George Lutz, who of course was portrayed by James Brolin AND Ryan Reynolds.)
Farrands addresses a problem associated with most haunted house sagas, namely, Why in the f*ck doesn’t the family just leave the house?! (said house pictured) “I found their story to be even more compelling than ‘Amityville’ in some ways because it began literally with a life or death situation. Unlike the Lutzes, this family was forced to uproot themselves to be closer to the clinic where their eldest son, who was about 15 or 16 at the time, was undergoing radical cancer treatment. The family’s financial resources were all but drained at this point and the mom, who was driving the son over 100 miles a day to and from the clinic, finally reached a breaking point. So she decided to rent a house in a small Connecticut town to save the commute and the physical strain it was putting on her son. What the family came to find out later was that the house they rented was previously a funeral home with a rather disturbing past.”
Pretty tough-luck family. The movie probably ends with them fleeing the house and getting run over by a bus.
Newcomer Peter Cornwell is directing the flick, from a script by Adam Simon and Tim Metcalfe (BONES). Hotstuff Virginia Madsen will play the bedeviled momma. (I’d like to haunt HER house, heh heh heh. Sorry…)
