28 Days no game

With 28 DAYS LATER‘s sequel on the horizon, it seems as though game developers, like Hollywood, don’t know a good idea when it’s staring them right in the face.

According to gamesindustry.biz, at the Develop conference going on in Brighton, England, DNA Films producer Andrew MacDonald told an audience that he had shopped around the idea of a film-to-video game based on 28 DAYS LATER. Problem is, despite the unique idea of speedy zombies, gritty action and a relatively realistic premise (at least in a sci-fi/horror sense) presented by director Danny Boyle, the idea was passed over by game developers. While some indie companies showed interest in doing the game, the same companies wanted DNA to foot the bill for development time, which was something that the studio couldn’t afford.

It’s unfortunate that the idea was shot down, given that the film screams ‘video game’. It’d be a helluva lot faster-paced than RESIDENT EVIL, and certainly would be a blast for multiplayer. It just goes to show you that some folks must have rocks in their heads. But what really hurts is this: Alex Garland, who wrote the story for 28 DAYS LATER, was offered $1 million to write the adaptation for Microsoft’s HALO
