I’ve met people out there who absolutely love Alex Proyas’ DARK CITY, claiming it to be the ‘goth flick of our generation’ or something like that. I’ve also met folks who f*cking hate it with a vengeance too. Me, I thought it was pretty good, but didn’t blow my load or anything.
Today our step pops JoBlo pointed us in the direction of Proyas’ production company forums, where a loyal fan of CITY asks not only about the possible upcoming DVD Director’s Cut, but if there are plans of a sequel… Here’s what Proyas had to say…
DC was hardly a smash hit at the box office so it is unlikely, if a sequel was made, they’d give me a huge budget to work with. So don’t worry too much about that! I am more and more interested in the idea of a sequel, and who knows, after the special edition comes out, with everyone’s support behind it, a sequel… maybe who knows… but I’ve already said too much.
First I think he’s saying no way in hell it would happen, next thing I know he’s talking about the DVD being released then a sequel. I guess it’s good to know he’s smart about the whole deal, and I think from the ‘cult’ status CITY has gotten since its initial theatrical release, there’s a good chance the DVD is gonna make bank… then those thoughts of a sequel don’t seem too far off.
