Wednesday: Luis Guzman to play Gomez Addams in Tim Burton’s Netflix series

Last Updated on August 10, 2021

Created by Charles Addams in 1938 for his The Addams Family cartoon that appeared in the pages of The New Yorker magazine, the character Gomez Addams has been played on screen by John Astin, Raul Julia, Tim Curry, and Glenn Taranto. In the 2019 animated Addams Family movie (watch it HERE) and its upcoming sequel, the character was voiced by Oscar Isaac. Now you can add another actor to the list of those who have brought Gomez Addams to life: Luis Guzman. Collider learned that Guzman has signed on to play the character in Tim Burton's upcoming live-action Netflix series Wednesday.

Created by showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar, Wednesday will center on Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega. The show is described as

a comedic, supernaturally-infused coming-of-age series that follows the teenage girl's years as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the town, and solve a mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new relationships at Nevermore.

The 8 episode series marks Burton's TV directing debut. Burton is also executive producing the show alongside Gough, Millar, Jonathan Glickman of Glickmania, Andrew Mittman of 1.21, Kayla Alpert, Gail Berman, Steve Stark, and Kevin Miserocchi of the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation.

Guzman is a very prolific actor, with over 150 credits to his name. Among those credits are Black Rain, Innocent Blood, Carlito's Way, Boogie Nights, Out of Sight, The Limey, Magnolia, Oz, Traffic, Punch-Drunk Love, The Last Stand, Narcos, Code Black, and Shameless. I always enjoy watching Guzman whenever he shows up on the screen, so I look forward to seeing his performance as Gomez. I wouldn't have thought of him for this character, but he should be fun in the role.
