Apple TV+ today has unveiled a first look at The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey, the highly-anticipated limited series executive produced by and starring Oscar-nominated Samuel L. Jackson. Based on the novel by best-selling author Walter Mosley, the six-episode series about family, memory, and legacy will arrive on Apple TV+ on Friday, March 11th. As you can see from the Ptolemy Grey images included in this article, the series looks to pack an emotional punch while telling a gripping story about human connections. The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey will launch with a two-episode premiere, followed by one episode weekly, every Friday.

Per Apple TV+, here is the official synopsis for The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey:

The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey stars Jackson as Ptolemy Grey, an ailing man forgotten by his family, by his friends, and by even himself. Suddenly left without his trusted caretaker and on the brink of sinking even deeper into a lonely dementia, Ptolemy is assigned to the care of orphaned teenager Robyn, played by BAFTA Award nominee Dominique Fishback (“Judas and the Black Messiah”). When they learn about a treatment that can restore Ptolemy’s dementia-addled memories, it begins a journey toward shocking truths about the past, present, and future. In addition to Jackson and Fishback, the Apple Original series features Cynthia Kaye McWilliams (Coyote, Real Husbands of Hollywood), Damon Gupton (Black Lightning, Bates Motel), Marsha Stephanie Blake ( I Am Your Woman, When They See Us), Walton Goggins (Justified, The Unicorn),  and Omar Miller (The Unicorn, Ballers).

In addition to penning the novel, Mosley will also adapt the screenplay and executive produce. Joining Mosley and Jackson as executive producers are Mosley’s producing partner Diane Houslin, Ramin Bahrani, Eli Selden and David Levine for Anonymous Content, and LaTanya Richardson.

As you can see from today’s Ptolemy Grey images, Jackson looks to be digging deep to get to the core of his character. I imagine that The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey will be a real tear-jerker as the mission to restore Ptolemy’s memories gets underway. Dementia is a life-altering condition that heavily taxes those who experience it. We’ve seen it portrayed on film time and again, and it will be interesting to witness Jackson’s dramatic approach to having impaired cognitive abilities.
