Scream 6 images feature Ghostface, Hayden Panettiere, Courteney Cox, and more!

A new batch of images from Scream 6 feature Ghostface, Hayden Panettiere, Courteney Cox, Dermot Mulroney, and more

It has been announced on Twitter that a new trailer for Scream 6 – which is set to reach theatres on March 10th – will be released online tomorrow. While we wait for that new trailer to arrive, Entertainment Weekly has gotten their hands on a batch of images from the new sequel, and you can check those out at the bottom of this article. The images feature franchise regular Courteney Cox, the surviving new characters from last year’s Scream movie, new cast addition Dermot Mulroney, returning Scream 4 cast member Hayden Panettiere, and the slasher Ghostface, sporting a weathered mask this time around.

Although set in New York City, Scream 6 was actually filmed in Montreal. Directed by Scream 2022 directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a screenplay by Scream 2022 writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, this one will show us what happens when the four survivors of the Ghostface killings leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.

Those four survivors are the Scream 2022 characters played by returning stars Melissa Barrera (as Samantha Carpenter), Jenna Ortega (as Samantha’s sister Tara Carpenter), Jasmin Savoy Brown (as Mindy Meeks-Martin), and Mason Gooding (as Mindy’s brother Chad Meeks-Martin). Courteney Cox is reprising the role of Gale Weathers. Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, Josh Segarra, Samara Weaving, Tony Revolori, Dermot Mulroney, and Henry Czerny have also been cast in unspecified roles. And Scream 4‘s Hayden Panettiere is back as Kirby Reed. According to YouTuber Critical Overlord, it looks like Thomas Cadrot might be in the cast as well.

Neve Campbell was asked to reprise the role of franchise heroine Sidney Prescott in Scream 6, but passed on it due to a pay dispute.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Barrera and Cox both said that dropping Ghostface into New York City makes the slasher scarier than ever before. As for the story of Scream 6 and where it finds the characters, Ortega said, “At the top of the film we see my character Tara avoiding her trauma and desperately trying to reclaim her teenage experience and become normal college student. There’s a lot of tension between her and Sam, she feels as though she’s too protective and unwilling to allow them both to move on. She feels suffocated.

Barrera added, “Not a lot of time has passed since the last movie. Pretty much, the amount of time that we’ve had between one movie and the other is the amount of time that has passed in their world. So the trauma is still very fresh. One of my favorite parts about this movie is that we really get to see how the happenings of the last movie affected them. We get to really see the baggage that they’re carrying now and how each of them is dealing with it differently.

Panettiere talked about what it was like to return for Scream 6 after missing out on the fifth movie: “I felt a little left out. It’s true. I did feel a little like I had to find my way back into the new group because that crew had done the prior film. But they were all so welcoming. It was interesting, they made me part of their family that I had already been a part of. [Laughs] So it was like an estranged aunt came back into the fold!” Talking about where Kirby is now, a decade after Scream 4: “She’s come a long way. What happened to her has obviously impacted her life, and it sends her in a certain direction, but she’s still the same old Kirby at the heart of it. She’s just a little older, a little wiser, but just as spitfire-y, and snarky, and all that good stuff.

Vanderbilt is producing Scream 6 with Paul Neinstein and William Sherak for Project X Entertainment. Original Scream screenwriter Kevin Willamson serves as executive producer alongside Chad Villella, Ron Lynch, Cathy Konrad, Marianne Maddalena, and Spyglass’s Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre.
