For more than three decades, Jason Mewes has been a pop-culture fixture. Best known as the fast-talking, endlessly quotable Jay from Clerks, Mallrats, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and the rest of the View Askewniverse, Mewes has built a career that extends far beyond the big screen. Like a modern-day Cheech and Chong for a new generation, he’s left his mark on movies, television, video games, podcasts, and stand-up comedy.
Now, Mewes is taking on a new challenge with the launch of his YouTube series, 5 Things with Jay Mewes. The concept is simple but surprisingly revealing. Set inside a convenience store, Mewes sits down with celebrity guests and asks them one question: what are the five things they can’t live without and always buy at a convenience store? From there, the conversations take on a life of their own, leading to funny stories, unexpected revelations, and plenty of memorable moments.
When Mewes and his team reached out to JoBlo about the new channel, we jumped at the chance to chat with him. During our conversation, he explained how the idea for the show came together and why the convenience-store setting felt like the perfect backdrop. He also teased some of the celebrity guests viewers can expect to see in future episodes.
Beyond the new show, we discussed his love of murder mystery television series, his involvement with the upcoming video game Jay and Silent Bob: The Chronic Blunt Punch, and what the future might hold for Jay and Silent Bob after all these years.
