Michael J. Fox to voice the lead character Dougie in the animated feature film Dragoons

The GOAT, Michael J. Fox, is ready to enter the sound booth for a new CG animation film titled Dragoons from ICON Creative Studios. He’ll voice the project’s lead character, Dougie, for a role the studio says was designed specifically for the Back to the Future icon.

Who’s Dougie and what is Dragoons about?

Per the official description, Dougie is “an overlooked, ordinary worker at WizCorp — that is, until a freak accident awakens something extraordinary within his new apprentice Dart. Transformed into a mighty dragon, Dougie and Dart uncover an impossible truth: their kind were once legendary rulers of the skies, until the ruthless wizard-CEO Hex shrank them, erased their memories, and stole their power to build his empire. With this new truth in front of their eyes, and in their hearts, Dougie and Dart must find the courage to rise, awaken their kind, and prove that even the smallest spark can light up the sky.”

Fox on playing Dougie

While talking about the new characters in Dragoons, Fox said, “Dougie and Dart’s story is one I understand deeply, the idea that something immense can be sleeping inside you, just waiting for the right moment to be set free. This is a film for anyone who has ever felt overlooked, underestimated, or forgotten. I’m honored to help bring Dougie to life.”

Fox gets animated again

Fox is no stranger to lending his voice to animated characters. He played Milo James Thatch in Disney’s 2001 epic Atlantis: The Lost Empire, and recently appeared as Michael J. Fox in Disney’s Zootopia 2. If ICON sounds familiar, that’s because it’s the same studio that released this year’s Charlie the Wonderdog, starring Owen Wilson as Charlie, an aging dog who gets superpowers when an alien invades Earth.

ICON’s CEO on Fox joining the film

“Michael J. Fox is Dougie. From the moment we began developing this character, we knew we needed a voice that could carry both immense warmth and unshakeable spirit,” said Shea Wageman, CEO and President of ICON Creative Studio, about Fox joining the project. “Michael brings all of that and more. He gives Dougie a soul that audiences of every age will root for from the first frame to the last.”

It’s always nice to see an animation studio that’s not Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks, or Illumination making moves. We need more talented people in animation, bringing the world new characters and stories. I’m excited to learn more about Dragoons, especially knowing that Fox is so excited about lending his voice to its lead character. Let’s go!
