Geena Davis is on board for a sequel to The Long Kiss Goodnight

The Long Kiss Goodnight

The Long Kiss Goodnight is an incredibly fun action romp from the 90s that is rarely brought up. While Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, Uma Thurman and more have been the faces of A-list female action stars of the millennium, Geena Davis would break into the genre with her then-husband, Renny Harlin, for both Cutthroat Island and The Long Kiss Goodnight. Shane Black would write the script and I feel that it’s up there with Lethal Weapon as Davis gets to have her own buddy comedy with Samuel L. Jackson in the film. Jackson has stated that the movie is a favorite of his, as he had a blast playing Mitch Henessey alongside Davis’ Samantha Caine. That’s a film that he’s always wanted to do a sequel to.

Davis down for another round

Not only would The Long Kiss Goodnight be Jackson’s favorite film, but Davis also admits that she loves the movie. According to Deadline, Davis spoke with them during the Bentonville Film Festival, which she has led since its creation, and she professed,

It’s my favorite too. I’m supposed to say Thelma & Louise because that movie is irreplaceable, but I have to say, I had so much fun with Sam and we’ve always wished that we could do a sequel.”

She continued to say,

In fact, people might not know, but we changed the ending [of the movie] so that Sam’s character was alive. In the original script, he dies and we were like, ‘No, no, no, no, no. We want to be able to do a sequel if it happens.’ But it probably still could. We’re not too old!”

Davis’ new action project

The Academy Award winner hasn’t strayed away from the action genre. She was also delighted to talk about her new project with none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger. The film is called The Kellys and she and Arnold are joined by Liam Hemsworth, Kelsey Asbille and Abby Elliott. Brad Peyton directs the film from a script he wrote with Tze Chun. “My friends were asking, ‘What is it about?’ I said, ‘Arnold Schwarzenegger’s in it! Okay. You get the idea.’ It’s a full-on action movie and very funny too and really fun.”
