Nearly a decade after the last film, the next installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is finally starting to take shape. Many members of the original cast have expressed interest in returning for the Pirates sequel, including Geoffrey Rush, who is down to come back as Captain Barbossa, provided it serves a purpose.

“I think there’s been a big enough break,” Rush told Entertainment Weekly. “I sacrificed myself for my daughter. I don’t want it to be too cheesy and too easy that I come back and go, ‘Give me another payday.’ I respect the scale of the opera that’s almost been created in that 20-year period.“
Barbossa has died twice in the franchise, so obviously, the great beyond isn’t a hindrance to further appearances. “I go to Shakespeare and go to Hamlet’s father comes back as a ghost,” he said. “It’ll take good writing, but just to come back and annoy Jack Sparrow for one more go, you know? I’d even say get the fans to write in what they’d like to see happen.“
Orlando Bloom Also Wants to Come Back
Orlando Bloom, who plays Will Turner in the franchise, told EW that he still keeps in touch with the Pirates cast and asks about another sequel “all the time.“
“I do connect with [Depp] every now and again, because he’s amazing,” Bloom said. “But I think, it’s like, that was so fun and it was such a zeitgeist-y thing. I mean, I don’t know how they do it or when they do it, but I haven’t heard.“
As for Depp, it was uncertain whether he’d return as Captain Jack Sparrow, but the actor seems to be making a comeback. At D23, Jerry Bruckheimer said, “We’re talking to Johnny (Depp), we’re working on a screenplay, and hopefully we can get this done.” However, reports have also stated that Sparrow will be more of a supporting character this time around, with Margot Robbie taking on the leading role.
