The Exhausting Search for James Bond
It stands to reason that a studio will put a ton of effort into selecting the new James Bond. After all, this will be the face of your franchise for years. However, the news of the ping-ponging casting rumors is driving as wild as an Aston Martin in a chase. It was recently reported that Callum Turner has reportedly resigned as a director of Twentytwo Films Ltd., the production company he founded last year with his wife, Dua Lipa. This is being taken as a sign that he’s clearing his slate to focus solely on James Bond. The timing is interesting as the actor was reportedly at Bray Studios in Berkshire on Friday for his Bond screen test.
Drunken Slip of the Tongue?
The announcement of the new James Bond casting nearly feels like it’s being drawn out for maximum tension. Now, Page Six is reporting that a celebration in the camp of one of the hopeful actors included an individual who had gotten so drunk that they let it slip that he had been chosen for the 007 role. The story is that one of Josh O’Connor’s co-stars in the drama Golden Boy had gone to a London pub and declared that O’Connor has been cast.
The source told Page Six,
I bumped into one of Josh’s Golden Boy cast mates at The French House. They were recognized by a lot of people who asked for selfies and we got chatting in a corner completely by accident. Out of nowhere, and oiled by a few glasses of lager, they blurted out that Josh was the next James Bond.”
The source added that the cast member was “insistent” that it was a done deal. The source then added, “They said that he had confided in them about getting the role when the cast of Golden Boy had celebratory drinks after the play finished its run on Halloween.” They also said that the cast member was “clearly very proud” of O’Connor.
007
Amazon MGM Studios is taking their sweet time with casting the next 007. As the new era after Daniel Craig begins, the talent behind the scenes look stronger than ever with Steven Knight penning the film and Denis Villeneuve on board as the enthusiastic director. It has been reported that the final round of screen tests were being held a few weeks ago and names like Callum Turner, Jack Lowden, Josh O’Connor, Jacob Elordi, Jack O’Connell and Richard Madden has been thrown around.
