Color me not shocked in the least!
After shredding it’s competition at the box-office last weekend (garnering a hefty $32.9 million), it appears a 3D sequel to Samuel Bayer’s A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET is traveling on high speed rail towards fruition. Peep it…
According to Dan Fellman, Warner Bros.’ distro-prez who spoke to The Wrap:
“We don’t have a story yet, but this is the largest horror opening in the April-May corridor, and it just proves there’s a lot left in the franchise.”
Yes, clearly. But what about 3D?
From Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller (via Dread Central):
“I think that making the Nightmare sequel in 3D is a bigger discussion than for right here in this room. We think that 3D movies have to be designed and written as such. If Eric Heisserer and Wesley Strick came to us with a Nightmare sequel script that is for a 3D movie, we’d be fools not to make it.”
Continuing:
“Using 3D for a Nightmare sequel has to work conceptually for us, though. I don’t want to shoehorn the story just so we can use 3D technology. I do really think this movie and the visual style would work well within a 3D environment, though, so you never know.”
Well, at least they seem to have the right motivations behind the use of 3D. Props to these cats for not converting their film to 3D in post like some execs were pushing for. That’s some damn restraint, can you imagine how much more NIGHTMARE would have made last weekend (I’m still incensed for shelling out $12.75)?
