A 3D Shock Labyrinth

Japan is getting into the 3D horror game with THE SHOCK LABYRINTH, which will be the country’s first live-action 3D flick. Directing will be Takashi Shimizu (pictured above, bein’ a pimp), who made about 800 different GRUDGE movies in Japan before making two over here in the States.

The horror-thriller follows a group of teenagers dealing with the sudden return of a friend who went missing a decade ago. When the friend falls ill, they take her to a hospital but end up trapped in a labyrinthine haunted house. Damn, sucks to be those teens.

The idea is apparently inspired by a theme-park attraction called the “Labyrinth of Horrors” at Fuji-Q High Land, near the base of Mount Fuji. It’s the largest haunted house in the world, and the flick is being shot there during off hours.

Seems like if you’re not making your horror movie in 3D nowadays, you’re behind the times. Somehow, Sam Raimi managed to make a highly entertaining horror flick in 2D, which must have been a fluke. 3D is the new wave, and it ain’t going away. (Until, you know, it goes away…)
