Over the years, Dean Devlin has written and produced such films as INDEPENDENCE DAY, INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE, and GODZILLA (1998), and he recently directed the weather disaster film GEOSTORM. Now he's taking a break from mass destruction with his latest project, the thriller BAD SAMARITAN.
Directed by Devlin from a screenplay by Brandon Boyce (whose previous credits include the Stephen King adaptation APT PUPIL and the 2005 slasher VENOM), BAD SAMARITAN has a set-up that's quite reminiscent of DON'T BREATHE:
A valet develops a clever scam to burglarize the houses of rich customers. Things go smoothly until he robs the wrong customer, and discovers a woman being held captive in his home. Afraid of going to prison, he leaves the woman there and makes a call to the police, who find nothing when they investigate. Now, the valet must endure the wrath of the kidnapper who seeks revenge on him, all while desperately trying to find and rescue the captive woman he left behind.
Thankfully this one doesn't just stay in the killer's house, playing out on a larger scale than DON'T BREATHE after the similar set-up.
The film stars David Tennant, Robert Sheehan, Carlito Olivero, Kerry Condon, and Jacqueline Byers.
