A Glitch in the Matrix: trailer for mind-bending documentary jacks in!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Are we in a simulation? What is real? These are the questions the Wachowski Sisters' iconic sci-fi action-thriller The Matrix pondered. But the upcoming documentary A Glitch in the Matrix from filmmaker Rodney Ascher (Room 237) is going even deeper, and actually investigating the validity of that particular question, rather than simply using it as a jumping off point for badass kung-fu fights and slow-mo shoot-outs. And now you can watch a trailer for the film, which just dropped online!

Here's the official synopsis:

What if we are living in a simulation, and the world as we know it is not real? To tackle this mind-bending idea, acclaimed filmmaker Rodney Ascher (ROOM 237, THE NIGHTMARE) uses a noted speech from Philip K. Dick to dive down the rabbit hole of science, philosophy, and conspiracy theory. Leaving no stone unturned in exploring the unprovable, the film uses contemporary cultural touchstones like THE MATRIX, interviews with real people shrouded in digital avatars, and a wide array of voices, expert and amateur alike. If simulation theory is not science fiction but fact, and life is a video game being played by some unknowable entity, then who are we, really? A GLITCH IN THE MATRIX attempts to find out.

This honestly sounds more relevant now than ever before, especially with how connected online we are at the moment (case in point, the very existence of this job). But to take that idea and explore every permutation of it sounds fascinating, and The Matrix seems like the perfect jumping off point to do it as well!

Meanwhile, A Glitch in the Matrix will be available in theaters and On Demand February 5, 2021!

So what do you guys think? And do you believe we're in a simulation? Either way, sound off below!
