A Gore-y animated film

JoBloJoBlo

Gore Verbinski will next direct a $100 million animated movie for producer Graham King (THE DEPARTED). The plot of the movie is being kept under wraps but the script is currently being written by John Logan (GLADIATOR, SWEENEY TODD). The film would reunite Verbinski with many of his old PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN co-workers who will assist in the animation process. Mark McCreery, who designed all the creatures in the first PIRATES movie, will join the project along with James Ward Brykit, art director for all three PIRATES movies. A-list directors working on animated films haven’t had much success lately with Spike Jonze currently at odds with Warner Bros. over the fate of WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE. Working in Verbinski’s favor is that he and King will be developing the project independent of the studio system. The film might reunite Verbinski and Johnny Depp who is close friends with both the director and producer King with whom he was developing four projects. King cautions that the film is still in the very early stages due to the strike and that they’re currently looking at a 2010 release date.
