Before James Wan's AQUAMAN washes ashore on December 21st, Warner Bros. has released a new featurette titled "Amazing Worlds," which takes us under the sea and behind the scenes of DC's latest superhero epic starring Jason Momoa as the fishy freedom fighter. In the extensive and informative video, Wan details several of the majestic underwater locales featured in the film, as well as some of the big screen adventure's most enigmatic heroes, creatures, and villains.
Joining in on the fun are several members of the film's cast, including: Momoa, Amber Heard (Mera), Nicole Kidman (Queen Atlanna), Willem Dafoe (Nuidis Vulko), and Patrick Wilson (Orm/Ocean Master), among others. In the upcoming film, Arthur Curry learns that he is the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, and must step forward to lead his people and be a hero to the world. The screenplay written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Will Beall will find Aquaman teaming up with Mera, the former Queen of Xebel and Ariel to Arthur's Eric, if you feel me. Together, the dynamic deep-sea duo will cross paths with those who look to thwart Arthur's ascension to the Throne of Atlantis, including the nefarious Black Manta, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
From what I can see in the video, Wan and his team look to be giving this film their all, as they undoubtedly know that fans will be quick to gut the movie, should it not live up to their expectations. Thankfully, the sets, action set pieces, costume design, and creature effects all look positively stunning, which will hopefully result in an underwater odyssey that will have fans swimming back to theaters for another chance to ride the tide with DC's aquatic avenger.
In the video, Wan remarks that "With AQUAMAN, the trick and also part of the fun is designing a whole different world that we've never seen before. You know, it's pretty much limited by your own imagination."
I don't know about you, but I'm very much looking forward to seeing the underside of the DCEU, a place where shimmering colors, black water monsters, and forgotten cities thrive within a world that's very much alien to us, thus far. Thankfully, we won't have to wait long to see what AQUAMAN has to offer, as the film is set to float into theaters on December 21st. Cast out your net and grab a few tickets to this one, as early showings and beyond are bound to sell out real quick.
