You may not have known, but there’s going to be a remake of THE OSTERMAN WEEKEND.
You might remember the original from 1983 directed by Sam Peckinpah. It was derived from the thriller by Robert Ludlum. The story centers on a man who while on a trip with his friends is visited by a reporter who says that they aren’t who he thinks they are. When the reporter winds up dead, the man fights through his paranoia in order to survive and figure out who he can trust. The movie starred Rutger Hauer, Craig T. Nelson, John Hurt, and Dennis Hopper.
There were a few adjustments made when the original movie was adapted to make the film. The reporter was a CIA agent and this was all set against the backdrop of the Cold War.
Summit just hired Jesse Wigutow to re-write the script. Wigutow is also working on the upcoming Steve McQueen biopic. Summit is also trying to get Robert Schwentke (THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE, RED) to helm the remake. Universal apparently also wants Schwentke for RIPD with Ryan Reynolds. The director has been circling THE OSTERMAN WEEKEND remake for awhile now, but has yet to settle in.
