A Short Circuit remake is on the way

short circuit remake

I'm confident in saying that, as a kid, nobody loved Johnny 5 quite as much as I did. John Badham's SHORT CIRCUIT was on pretty much constant repeat in my household through 1987-88, and I vividly remember being near-hysterical near the end of SHORT CIRCUIT 2 when it looked like Johnny 5 was going to die (or rather, be disassembled). While talk of a SHORT CIRCUIT remake has been out there for years (I'm honestly amazed it never happened to be honest) it looks like it may happen this time, with Deadline revealing that Spyglass Media is launching a remake complete with a Latinx twist.

The film is set to be written by Eduardo Cisneros and Jason Shuman, who co-wrote the upcoming HALF BROTHERS, which is due out soon from Focus Features. No news yet on whether any of the original cast, which included Steve Guttenberg, Ally Sheedy, and (a controversial) Fisher Stevens, will return but I wouldn't hold your breath. It feels like this is going to be an all-new thing.

So…when are we gonna remake MANNEQUIN???
