Failing to realize Joe Carnahan directed BLOOD, GUTS, BULLETS AND OCTANE and NARC prior to doing large budget studio fare (A-TEAM, SMOKIN’ ACES), I’m actually pretty pumped over this new development. Y’all recall a thriller being set up last year called UMBRA…with Roger Donaldson and Nic Cage onboard to direct and star? Not ringin’ any bells? Well, Deadline has just announced Carnahan is dusting the sumbitch off…

According to the site, UMBRA moves from Relativity Media to Endgame Entertainment…with Carnahan now attached to write and direct. The thriller, written by Steven Karczynski, focuses on a man who finds an old cassette tape which reveals a horrifying secret.

No word on when Carnahan will get started, as he’s currently casting up the Liam Neeson drama THE GREY. As always, we’ll keep you abreast every step of the way.

In the meantime, let us know what you think. You stoked to see Carnahan return to darker genre fare? Who would you like to see him direct in the lead…good ol’ Nicky “New Hairpiece” Cage?
