Without having read Seth Grahame-Smith's source material, I was really looking forward to seeing the ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER movie back in 2012… and I ended up being disappointed by it. I didn't find it to be as awesome as the idea seemed to be in my mind.
I didn't realize Grahame-Smith had written a sequel to the Vampire Hunter novel, one titled The Last American Vampire. That sequel is now getting an adaptation of its own, being developed into a series for NBC.
The Last American Vampire is set up at 20th Century Fox TV, and will be coming to us from Grahame-Smith, his producing partner David Katzenberg, and 12 Monkeys showrunner Terry Matalas. Matalas has written the adaptation of the story, which follows
a 500-year-old bloodsucker and bon vivant named Henry Sturges, who’s been held under lock and key for the last forty years, and who’s believed to be the last of his kind. When a series of grizzly murders reveal a resurgence of vampires in the U.S., the FBI teams this affable monster up with Abby, a young FBI analyst, to solve a conspiracy centuries in the making.
Yep, that sounds like it will fit right in with the average network TV show.
Henry Sturges was Abraham Lincoln's vampire hunting mentor in these stories, and was played by Dominic Cooper in the 2012 VAMPIRE HUNTER film (pictured above).
Hopefully The Last American Vampire will be more to my taste than that movie was.
