MAX STEEL movie in the works

Paramount likes playing with toys. With TRANSFORMERS stealing hard-earned money like a bandit, and G.I. JOE set to make bank in a few weeks, the studio isn’t about to stop bringing live-action cartoons to a theater near you. Their next figurine-to-celluloid project? MAX STEEL!

However, if you’re like me, you’ve got one question: Who the f*ck is Max Steel? Apparently, the character came onto the scene in 1999 as an action figure, and became a popular animated series shortly thereafter. The toy property revolves around a 19-year-old extreme sports junkie recruited by a secret agency after an accident infects his body with nanobots, making him superhuman. Joe Roth, whom just produced Tim Burton’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND, is on board; he helped bring xXx to the big-screen a few years ago, and this figures to be a similar project.

MACHETE’s star-studded cast?!

Wow. If this turns out to be true, color me pretty f*cking amped for Robert Rodriguez’s MACHETE movie. Of course, I was already looking forward to it – or the possibility of it, to be exact – but if Bloody Disgusting’s rumor proves on the money, then we’ve got ourselves a treat come next year.

According to the site, Michelle Rodriguez, Jonah Hill, and Robert motherf*ucking De Niro are set to star alongside Danny Trejo in the feature film version of the beloved GRINDHOUSE trailer. De Niro – again, allegedly – will be playing a crooked senator and Machete’s main adversary. While their roles are specified, I think it’s safe to say that Hill would be comic-relief (although won’t the entire movie count as that?) and Rodriguez will be a tough-as-nails, semi-sexy badass. But that’s all she’s ever played, so…

Storm Shadow vs. Snake Eyes!

Seems like just about every week here on the Action R.U. we give you a new G.I. JOE poster. So why stop?! Here are a couple of nifty ones, showcasing two characters who are more than likely to be the movie’s most interesting (and most expressive). As a kid I love Snake Eyes, so the geek in me is definitely a little excited to finally see the guy in action. (He’s played by Ray “Darth Maul” Park.)

G.I. JOE opens on AUGUST 7. I, for one, am actually looking forward to it. I need more cheese in my diet…
