EXPENDABLES images!

There’s lots of noise being made at Comic-Con right now, but one film that’s not getting any love there is THE EXPENDABLES. Now, that’s obviously by design, as the studio has chosen not to pimp it out there. That’s okay, because we’re going to do our part by bringing you a couple of images from the Sly Stallone flick! Feast your eyes on Stallone, Statham, Li, Couture, Roberts, Austin, Crews, and Rourke! (To see the images in Hi-Res, head on over HERE.) THE EXPENDABLES opens on APRIL 23rd, 2010.

NINJA ASSASSIN trailer and poster

MTV manages to still be kinda relevant via their movie blog site (of course, the channel’s programming has sucked since I was a wee lad); their latest score is the NINJA ASSASSIN trailer, which you can watch below. In addition, they’ve brought along the above poster, which is pretty nifty in its own right.
NINJA ASSASSIN comes to us from the MATRIX team of The Wachowski Brothers and Joel Silver, with James McTeague (V FOR VENDETTA) sitting in the director’s chair. Let’s not get too excited though; the last flicks this crew brought us were SPEED RACER and the reshot segments of THE INVASION. Still, looks like it might be a hoot. It hits theaters on NOVEMBER 25th.

Takashi Miike likes Ninja Assassins too!

Some more ninja-centric news for y’all, and this is certainly a bit more intriguing than Joel Silver’s take. Infamous Japanese director Takashi Miike – the man of a thousand genres – is throwing THIRTEEN ASSASSINS our way. The flick has a hefty budget of $20 million (U.S. dollars), and is currently shooting in Japan, with an eye toward wrapping in September.
The film’s existence comes to light just as famous Japanese actor Koji Yakusho (BABEL, PULSE) has joined the cast. Yakusho stars as the leader of the band of 13 samurai charged with assassinating a lord who is a known rapist and murderer before he can assume a high political post… The film should receive a release in 2010.

THE BOOK OF ELI trailer

The Hughes Bros. don’t work nearly enough. Anyone who has seen MENACE II SOCIETY and DEAD PRESIDENTS know the two men are born filmmakers (both movies were made before the directors were 23 years old, for Christ’s sake). Now they’ve taken to collaborating with a bevy of badasses for the apocalyptic action suspenser THE BOOK OF ELI: Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Ray Stevenson, Michael Gambon, and Mila Kunis. (Yes, she qualifies as a badass because she sure kicks my ass around.)
Denzel Washington stars as a lone warrior named Eli, who fights his way across the desolate wasteland of near-future America to realize his destiny and deliver the knowledge that can bring civilization back from the brink of destruction and save the future of humanity.
Definitely give the trailer a chance. Lookin’ pretty sweet (in a grimy, dirty, hopeless sort of way).

2 G.I. JOE clips!

What, you thought you were done with flying ninja action? Wrong. Here we have a couple of outlandish clips from Stephen Sommers’ G.I. JOE, and naturally one of them features a CG-enhanced Snake Eyes flying through the air like goddamn Superman. It’s funny – and fun – and most certainly not to be taken seriously… I still think this movie is going to surprise a lot of people with its goofy self-awareness. But then, it wouldn’t be a Stephen Sommers film, would it?
The other clip is from the same sequence (and even oddly features a couple of the same lines), and it’s even more WTF than the first one. It’s obvious that this movie must be seen with at least one six-pack deep in your belly.
