Adam Sandler’s unholy alliance with Netflix extended for 4 more films

And lo! The ground did tremble on Friday, as Adam Sandler forged yet another pact with Netflix to unleash four more films on the streaming network.

Not long after the release of the Jennifer Aniston and Sandler-led comedy MURDER MYSTERY, Sandler and Happy Madison Productions have extended their deal to salt the earth with more off-color offerings for the steaming giant, thus completing the seventh circle and opening a maw to entertainment oblivion as we know it.

Gentle ribbing aside, there's no denying that Sandler has served as something of a Golden Goose for Netflix, with subscribers having spent more than 2 billion hours watching the SNL alum's array of films. Those films include 2015's THE RIDICULOUS 6, THE DO-OVER, SANDY WEXLER, THE WEEK OF, and of course, MURDER MYSTERY, which arrived as the most-watched film on Netflix in 2019. Oh, and let's not forget about Sandler's stand-up special, which had been the comedian's first scripted stage routine in 22 years.

For the moment, Sandler has two projects in the works at Netflix, including a family film in which he'll star called HUBIE HALLOWEEN. Set to join Sandler for the aforementioned holiday-themed project are Kevin James, Julie Bowen, Ray Liotta, Maya Rudolph, Rob Schneider, Kenan Thompson, Steve Buscemi, Michael Chiklis, Tim Meadows, Noah Schnapp, Paris Berelc, China Anne McClain and Shaquille O’Neal. In it, Hubie Dubois who, despite his devotion to his hometown of Salem, MA (and its legendary Halloween celebration), is a figure of mockery for kids and adults alike. But this year, something really is going bump in the night, and it’s up to Hubie to save Halloween.

Additionally, Sandler also has an untitled animated film on the way that the former BILLY MADISON mischief maker will write, produce, and star in.

“Whether you know him as Sandman, the Water Boy, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Nick Spitz or simply Adam, one thing is clear: our members can’t get enough of him,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer. “They love his stories and his humor, as we saw with Murder Mystery. So I could not be more excited to extend our partnership with Adam and the Happy Madison team and deliver more laughs around the world.”

Finally, the Safdie brothers UNCUT GEMS, in which Sandler stars as charismatic New York jeweler Howard Ratner, has made its way onto Netflix International as of today. Unfortunately, the film has yet to be added to the streamer's U.S. platform.
