Affleck & Damon were given a pilot order from Showtime for City on a Hill

It looks as if Mattfleck are at it again, folks! That's right, and this time Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are teaming up with Gavin O' Connor after landing a pilot order at Showtime for a 1990s-set gun violence drama called CITY ON A HILL. O' Connor will direct the pilot with LOGAN's James Mangold set as the project's executive produce. Chuck MacLean will write the script for Showtime and Pearl Street Films. Furthermore, Affleck, Damon and Pearl Street's Jennifer Todd will also executively produce alongside Mangold.

The story for CITY ON A HILL is based off of an original idea from Affleck, and tells of a fictional account from what's been referred to by many as the "Boston Miracle." You see, in the early 1990s, Boston was overrun with violent criminals who were empowered by several police agencies who turned a blind eye to their heinous crimes. Before long, corruption and racism ruled the streets, paving the way for hatred to be the norm. Soon, everything changed when an African-American District Attorney who came from Brooklyn seeking change formed an unlikely alliance with a corrupt yet venerated former FBI agent. Together, they take on a family of armored car robbers from Charlestown in a case that grows to encompass and eventually uproot Boston’s city-wide criminal justice system.

In speaking about the film, Pearl Street's Todd said, “CITY ON A HILL is a gritty thriller about severe corruption and gangs, the type of series that takes you back and centers around the crime-riddled streets of Boston in the early '90s. We are excited to be a part of this project with Showtime and to partner with Gavin again."

Following Jennifer's remarks, Gavin O' Connor said, "Chuck wrote a pressure-cooker of a script steeped in the tribal codes of a Shakespeare play — family, blood, betrayal, honor. His take on the ties that bind is handled with a deep honesty and insight. I see the show as a brawling thriller — and an intimate family drama — played out on the rough streets of Boston.”

Obviously, it will be a while before cameras start to roll for CITY ON A HILL, though if you're feeling the need to get your Affleck on before then, you can catch him as Batman in Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon's JUSTICE LEAGUE beginning on November 17th.
