Talk about a bummer.
With all the bad karma surrounding the MEN IN BLACK III production – what with shoot delays, script issues, a bloated budget, etc. – it seems the result is that one of the film’s stars, Alec Baldwin, has been forced to gracefully bow out.
But don’t take it from us alone, hear it from the man himself. When speaking with Vulture last night, Baldwin sadly admitted:
“I’m not doing that. I’m out of it; the schedule didn’t work out.”
Can’t get more direct than that. As you know, by “schedule” Baldwin is referring to the second half of shooting, which chronicles the 1969 portion of the picture. Originally set to shoot late last year, the schedule has been bumped all the way to late this month (March 28th).
Still tethered to a May 25th, 2012 release – Barry Sonenfeld’s MEN IN BLACK III shapes up like this: In addition to Smith as Agent J, Tommy Lee Jones reprises his role as the wisecracking Agent K in the present (the part already shot). Josh Brolin, through a time-travel twist, plays a young Agent K from 1969 who encounters countercultural figures such as Andy Warhol and Yoko Ono.
