Alfred Hitchcock’s classic stories to be re-imagined for anthology series

Alfred Hitchcock anthology series

Over his long and productive career, Alfred Hitchcock created some of the greatest movies ever made which still hold up today as the pinnacle of suspense, thrills and drama, but he didn't just occupy himself with the big-screen. Alfred Hitchcock Presents aired between 1955-1965 and each episode began with a few morbid words from Hitchcock himself, who also directed several episodes over the ten seasons. Hitchcock will soon be returning to television as Universal Cable Productions is currently developing a new anthology series which will re-imagine his classic stories for the small-screen.

Dubbed Welcome to Hitchcock, the new series is being developed with the cooperation of the Alfred Hitchcock Estate and will "follow Hitchcock’s unique brand of storytelling that resulted in films such as The Birds, Psycho and the series Alfred Hitchcock Presents.” Each season of Welcome to Hitchcock will focus on a season-long mystery or crime which will carry on the spirit of the classic Hitchcock style and legacy.

Dawn Olmstead, executive vice president of development at Universal Cable Productions:

Long after his death, Alfred Hitchcock continues to be one of the most celebrated directors and visionaries in the world, a master manipulator of the macabre. We’re honored that the Hitchcock Estate has put its trust in our studio to pay homage to his work.

Colour me intrigued, but I'm actually curious to see where they go with this. There's no word yet on which Hitchcock properties will serve as the inspiration for the series or how closely they'll be followed, but there's definitely a potential for something special here. Chris Columbus, who will also serve as one of the executive producers, is onboard to direct the pilot episode.

Any thoughts on Welcome to Hitchcock? Which Hitchcock properties would you like to see adapted for the series?
