Last month, word came in that 20the Century Fox was prepping a reboot/prequel/whatever the f*ck of the ALIEN franchise. The project – untitled for now – was to be produced by Ridley and Tony Scott, and directed by one Carl Erick Rinsch. Rinsch, an employee at the Scott’s company RSA, is a commercial director with considerable talent, although he’s lacking in the “has directed epic sci-fi films with massive budgets” department. That appears to be an issue the studio has…
According to Entertainment Weekly – via The Playlist – Fox isn’t down with handing yet another newbie director the reins to this property, in lieu of someone established, like Ridley Scott himself (remember how ALIEN 3 turned out, with music vid director David Fincher making his debut? How about the Brothers Stause’s take on AVP:R?). The studio and Scott have been circling an ALIEN prequel for a while, but apparently Ridley likes Rinsch for the gig as opposed to himself.
There’s a twist here, unknown before now. Rinsch is allegedly dating Ridley Scott’s daughter, Jordan. That explains it! Hey, not a bad way to get a gig, at least her dad likes the dude – a helluva lot, I’d say! It remains to be seen if this is a brief roadblock, or a larger problem for the reboot, about which little is known. Naturally, we’ll keep you updated as the drama unfolds…
