Rumor: Alien TV series in the works

As we all sit around and twiddle our thumbs waiting for news on a new entry in the FRIDAY THE 13TH and/or A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET series, we can all twiddle said thumbs knowing that 20th Century Fox seems to have a bunch of ALIEN films in the works. First, there is talk of Neill Blomkamp's ALIEN 5 (however I think it's safe to say that one is dead by this point) and there is also (supposedly) Ridley Scott's follow-up to PROMETHEUS and ALIEN: COVENANT on the horizon called ALIEN: AWAKENINGS.

So why not throw some rumors of an ALIEN: THE TV SERIES in there for good measure?

That's what Omega Underground seems to be doing today as the site reports that they have heard word from a "reliable source" that a series set within the ALIEN universe is being considered behind the scenes. There isn't word on where the potential series will land, but evidently, Hulu and Netflix were ruled out. The site also reports that "something could be announced soon."

Again, this is all just rumor at the time and nothing else has been even speculated at in this moment, but if an announcement is on the way for an ALIEN TV SERIES we might expect to hear it once this whole Fox/Disney merger is resolved one-way or the other.

The most previous ALIEN film, ALIEN: COVENANT, followed this synopsis:

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, members (Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup) of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think to be an uncharted paradise. While there, they meet David (Michael Fassbender), the synthetic survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. The mysterious world soon turns dark and dangerous when a hostile alien life-form forces the crew into a deadly fight for survival.

We'll let you guys know when and if we hear more on this rumored ALIEN TV SERIES, but until then hit us up below and let us know what kind of "Alien Universe" series you would like to see. Personally, I'd dig a series that told the story of Ripley's daughter after the events of the original film, leading up to her death before James Cameron's ALIENS. But that's just me. How about you?
