Amber’s Darkness

JoBloJoBlo

Every once in a while, a Hollywood starlet comes along that makes me seriously consider dumping my girlfriend for the sole reason that “you’re just not her, babe”. Lindsay Lohan once occupied that position as did Kathy Bates (pre-MISERY, obvy). Now there’s Amber Heard, the stunning blonde who set screens ablaze last summer in PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, and whose veritable “skills” prevented THE INFORMERS from going straight to DVD.

Heard–who could easily take the safe route and play your standard cinematic eye candy in mediocre films–seems to be determined for something more. She will star in, and produce AND SOON THE DARKNESS, the story of two American girls on a bike-riding trip in a remote part of Argentina. One of them goes missing, and the other must find her before darkness falls and shit hits the fan, so to speak. Fellow hottie Odette Yustman also stars in the film, which is a remake of the 1970 British thriller of the same name.

Heard’s bold move as a producer and actress comes not in her choice of film, but rather in her choice to work outside of the Hollywood landscape. The France-based Studio Canal will co-produce and co-finance the film, with commercials helmer Marcos Efron making his feature directorial debut. I guess Heard is confident enough in her taste and abilities not to accept roles in SCARY MOVIE 67 and AMERICAN PIE: MISSION TO MARS. Good for you, babes.
