AMC has greenlit an anthology series based on author Dan Simmons' bestselling 2007 novel The Terror, a project that work began on way back in February of 2013. David Kajganich is writing the adaptation and will serve as showrunner on the series with Soo Hugh.
Set in 1847, Simmons' novel tells what happens when
a Royal Naval expedition crew searching for the Northwest Passage is attacked by a mysterious predator that stalks the ships and their crew in a suspenseful and desperate game of survival.
Exactly how that concept is being brought to the small screen as an anthology was not revealed in the announcement, but the plan is to keep the story and setting intact, as the series will be embracing the novel's mixture of historical non-fiction, complex character work, and genre storytelling.
The first season of The Terror is expected to premiere sometime in 2017 and will run for ten episodes.
The series is being executive produced by Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Alexandra Milchan, Scott Lambert, and Guymon Casady.
I haven't read the book, but the story sounds interesting, and I'm curious to find out what sort of anthology this will be.
Kajganich's credits include THE INVASION and BLOOD CREEK, and he has worked on the scripts for updates of Stephen King's IT, THE STAND, and PET SEMATARY.
