Amy Adams and Adam McKay team for limited Walmart drama Kings of America

After combining their talents for VICE, a biographical drama based on the life and times of Dick Cheney, Amy Adams and Adam McKay are reuniting for KINGS OF AMERICA, a limited Netflix drama about three women associated with Walmart.

The project, which had sold to Netflix before COVID-19 pumped the breaks on film production across the board, centers on the stories of three powerful women whose lives were inextricably intertwined with the world’s largest company: a Walmart heiress, a maverick executive, and a longtime Walmart saleswoman and preacher who dared to fight against the retail giant in the biggest class-action lawsuit in US history. In addition to starring as one of the leads, Adams will also executive produce via her production company Bond Group Entertainment alongside her production partner Stacy O’Neil. Meanwhile, McKay will direct the first episode and is set to executive produce with Betsy Koch via Hyperobject Industries.

KINGS OF AMERICA marks yet another collaboration for Adams and McKay, who in 2006 teamed for TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY, starring Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Sacha Baron Cohen, Gary Cole, Michael Clark Duncan, Leslie Bibb, and Jane Lynch as well a host of other comedic greats. The laugh-out-loud comedy focused on legendary NASCAR driver Ricky Bobby, who when challenged by a French Formula One driver, is forced to explore his talent and devotion to the sport if he's to remain on top. Adams played Susan in the film, Bobby's assistant and eventual love interest.

In recent news, it was reported that Netflix is finalizing a deal to acquire THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW, which stars Adams as an agoraphobic woman living alone in New York who begins spying on her new neighbors, only to witness a disturbing act of violence.

What manner of drama KINGS OF AMERICA will add to the already-rich Walmart mythos is anyone's guess, though you can bet that we'll be there to find out all the delicious details. Stay close as we bring you the latest on this curious film project.
