The boys are back in town! If you’ve missed the antics of Adam Sandler and his signature crew, fear not, Grown Ups 3 is officially on the way, and we finally have a release window.
Chris Rock Drops the Details on Jimmy Fallon
During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Chris Rock, who plays Kurt McKenzie in the $519 million comedy franchise, revealed that the long-awaited sequel is currently in production and slated to hit theaters sooner than you think.
“We are shooting Grown Ups 3 right now,” Rock told Fallon with his trademark candidness. “It’ll be out probably next summer. We’re all back together. It’s really funny, man. Like, we’re having a great time. It’s fun hanging out with everybody.”
The Scorsese Strain and Career Realities
Rock didn’t stop there, offering a hilarious, self-deprecating take on where he and his co-stars find themselves at this stage of their Hollywood journeys. “You’re at that point in your career where you realize Scorsese’s not calling, you know. So you have that extra focus. Like, when you’re in the middle of your career, you just think at any moment… somebody big is gonna call. Like, I’m dealing with you right now. But as soon as Spielberg calls, I’m gonna tell you to kiss my ass.”
A Packed Call Sheet of Fan Favorites and Fresh Faces
While Rock is clearly leaning into comedy, that’s a surprisingly fairweather way of looking at the opportunity to star in a massive studio film. Who wouldn’t want to get paid to make a movie with their best friends? That’s especially true when the call sheet includes heavyweights like Adam Sandler, Kevin James, David Spade, Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello, and Salma Hayek Pinault. Oh, and Rob Schneider.
The stacked roster doesn’t end with the core group. Julie Bowen, Deon Cole, and Bailee Madison are set to make their franchise debut, joining returning fan favorites like Jackie Sandler, Shaquille O’Neal, Colin Quinn, Tim Meadows, Cheri Oteri, Ellen Cleghorne, and Nick Swardson.
Back in Action: Plot and Screenplay Details
Production is already nearly wrapped in New Jersey. According to the film’s official logline: Now that their kids are all grown up, the gang is finally free to go on the ultimate adventure. Tim Herlihy and Sandler are co-writing the script, continuing a legendary comedic partnership that brought us Grown Ups 2, Happy Gilmore 2, and Hubie Halloween. Get your lawn chairs ready, next summer is about to get loud.
