Paul W.S. Anderson – everybody’s favorite… uh… guy named Paul Anderson who isn’t Paul Thomas Anderson – has his directorial slate set for the foreseeable future… Last we heard, he was ready to tackle the 4th RESIDENT EVIL movie in the fall. Now it would seem he’s decided upon his follow-up, and it certainly sounds ambitious.

The project is THE WARDED MAN, a fantasy novel written by first-timer Peter V. Brett. The book is set in an undetermined future where mankind is beset by nightly attacks from demonkind and has been thrown back into a feudal state. Three young people emerge with the potential power to turn the tide, including the title character, a man who has wards (spells) tattooed on his body.

Anderson said: “We think it has the potential to be a new ‘Lord of the Rings’-style epic, and the book has all this great imagery.”

Apparently this is just the first in a trilogy of novels (natch) called “THE DEMON CYCLE”. I’ve never heard about any of this, but that may be because it’s really only a hit in Europe. (It goes by the name “The Painted Man” in the U.K.) It was released in the States in March.

Ah Milla…
