Andrew Koji reportedly cast as Storm Shadow for G.I. Joe spinoff movie

After receiving word that CRAZY RICH ASIANS actor Henry Golding is in early talks to star as Snake Eyes for Paramount, Skydance, and AllSpark's G.I. Joe spinoff feature, SNAKE EYES, The Wrap is reporting that WARRIOR alum Andrew Koji is also joining the cast as Storm Shadow.

Directing the third live-action film based on the “G.I. Joe” toy line is RED and R.I.P.D. helmer Robert Schwentke. The upcoming film features a screenplay by BEAUTY AND THE BEAST screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos, which centers on Snake Eyes' origin and how he became a member of the Arashikage Clan, a ninja clan based in Japan.

According to gijoefandom.com, Storm Shadow is best known as the Cobra Commander's ninja bodyguard and assassin. He can trace his lineage through thirty generations of assassins. He is a classic character study in conflict. Storm Shadow's primary reason for joining the evil Cobra organization is borne not out of greed but a need for vengeance. The Commander has attained his loyalty on the promise of eventually revealing the identity of his uncle's killer.

His sword-brother, Snake-Eyes, finally convinced him to let go of revenge and even has joined the Joe Team, engaging in many missions and adventures. However, on a routine mission, he was captured by Cobra and brainwashed into their service once more. Now, Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow find themselves at odds once more.

For the moment, SNAKES EYES is still in its early planning stages. It's also been said that the contributing studios are looking to reboot the franchise, after the two previous films in the series were met with mild reactions.

The pair of aforementioned films include G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA  (2009) and G.I. JOE: RETALIATION (2013), the latter of which starred Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock, Channing Tatum as Duke, and Bruce Willis as General Joe Colton. The Snake Eyes character was featured in both films, as played by Darth Maul actor Ray Park. Unfortunately, neither installment of the G.I. Joe film franchise were considered barn burners, and so plans are to re-tool the property before launching a comeback. To do this, it's been said that Hasbro and the associated studios will field ideas courtesy of a writers room staffed by a group of intriguing talents.
