Andy Serkis teases when Venom might meet Spider-Man in the movie universe

Comic book fans have been aching for Spider-Man vs Venom to come face to face on the big screen in a way that isn’t embarrassing to the fanbase (sorry Topher Grace and Spider-Man 3) and many think that union could very well happen between Tom Hardy’s Venom and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. There has been a lot of speculation about whether or not these two characters exist in the same movie universe (most signs point to yes) so that’s why Venom: Let There Be Carnage director, Andy Serkis, believes that the characters will come together but it’s just a matter of when.

During a chat with IGN, Serkis explained why he believes Eddie Brock aka Venom has yet to meet Spider-Man and whether that confrontation will come to the big screen soon. Serkis begins by saying, “Look, that’s the question on everyone’s lips. They want to know when Venom is going to meet Spider-Man. Personally, it’s never going to happen! I’m only joking! It’s going to happen…It’s gonna happen; of course, it’s gonna happen.” Serkis has thought about the two characters encountering each other but he goes on to say that he’s focused on telling Venom’s side of the story before going there:

“Look, it depends when you want to get there and also what the appetite is. If people want more Venom stories, then to jump straight to Spider-Man, you could be missing out on many great supervillain characters between now and then.”

Serkis went on to note that he’s “not rushing it” and he then cited a number of other supervillains within the Venom lore that could be explored before even making Spider-Man a factor, including other symbiotes behind bars at the Ravencroft Institute for the Criminally Insane. Finishing his point, Serkis says “Point taken, yes, everybody wants to see Venom fight Spider-Man, so I think, again, it’s appetite…they’ll be sacrificing all of that stuff if they want to rush to that.”

In the meantime, we have Venom: Let There Be Carnage to look forward to. Directed by Andy Serkis with a screenplay from Kelly Marcel, Tom Hardy returns as Eddie Brock/Venom alongside Woody Harrelson, who is bringing one of Venom’s biggest adversaries, Cletus Kasady/Carnage, to life. Kasady is a psychotic serial killer who also becomes the host of an alien symbiote known as Carnage. Also new to the franchise is Naomie Harris, playing the role of Shriek, Kasady’s love interest. Michelle Williams returns as Eddie’s ex-fiancee, district attorney Anne Weying, while Reid Scott rounds out the cast as Anne’s boyfriend.

When do YOU think it will be Spider-Man vs Venom in the new movie universe?
