Angelina Jolie to take the lead for Imperative’s frontier drama The Kept

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Imperative Entertainment has landed MALEFICENT 2 and THE ONE AND ONLY IVAN star Angelina Jolie as the lead for THE KEPT, an upcoming drama based on the frontier novel of the same name by author James Scott. Adapting the novel for the silver screen will be LADY MACBETH and JANE SEEING MARK scribe Alice Birch, who will weave a tale set in a harsh 1897 winter, when a trio of killers descends upon an isolated farm in upstate New York. When midwife Elspeth Howell (Jolie) returns home, she discovers her husband and four of her children have been murdered. Before she can discover her remaining son Caleb, alive and hiding the kitchen pantry, another shot rings out over the snow-covered valley. Twelve-year-old Caleb must tend to his mother until she recovers enough for them to take to the frozen wilderness in search of the men responsible.

In addition to starring in the film, Jolie will also produce alongside Imperative Entertainment’s Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas. However, before arriving on the set of the dark and mysterious pic, Jolie must first wrap her scenes for director Brenda Chapman's COME AWAY, a hermeneutic take on the stories of PETER PAN and ALICE IN WONDERLAND.

Baed on the description above, I suspect that THE KEPT will depict an epic tale of survival, revenge, and the undying love of a mother willing to laugh in the face of death. We'll be sure to bring you more news as details surrounding THE KEPT emerge from the wintery wasteland. Meanwhile, Disney's MALEFICENT 2 is expected to arrive May 29, 2020.
