Anne Hathaway responds to Catwoman criticism

Ever since the first picture of Catwoman hit the internet last week, all of us fans have been making our own judgments about it. If you think those involved with the production don’t listen to such things, you’re wrong, as Hathaway herself has heard the complaints, and addressed them to MTV.

“I was not going to admit it,” Hathaway begins when probed with the question of her first reaction to the photo. “I asked someone to send me a few reactions [to the photo], and I happen to know that MTV’s reaction was ‘meh.’ ”

“What I am happy to say is, if you didn’t like the photo, you only see about a 10th of what that suit can do, and if you did like the photo, you have an excellent taste.”

I didn’t really have an opinion one way or the other. I wasn’t expecting it to be as much of a catsuit as past installments with ears and all, but what we saw didn’t quite look like a costume, just a bodysuit and some strange sunglasses.

There’s an additional report out from Batman-News that claims to know a bit more about the character.

“Catwoman is apparently one of the most well written characters we’ve seen in these movies so far and she could potentially steal the show the way Heath Ledger did last time. She does some cool stuff in the movie like jumping out of windows and stealing the Batpod. Her back story is that she has a history of abuse and works as a stripper and is also a pickpocket.”

Take that how you will, but it doesn’t sound too terribly legitimate to me. We can see that she steals the Batpod from the photos, and I expected someone to jump out of a window at least once during an action movie. The abuse and stripper angles could be true, and I definitely would want to see Hathaway filling that latter role.
