Inching closer and closer to limited release on October 23rd (On Demand October 28th), Danish auteur Lars Von Trier’s by all accounts spirit-crushing magnum opus ANTICHRIST remains my most anticipated flick of 2009.
And to further whet my thirst, a cool-ass new poster by David D’Andrea has been created for the film, submitted for specific use at this year’s Fantastic Fest.
The poster is grim and beautifully haunting, the kind that, like the film itself (it would seem), requires a deeper look than what is seen at first glance. And the unofficial tagline of the film is ominously boasted: “Nature is Satan’s Church.” Seriously, how can you not want to see this film?
For those in need of a refresher, ANTICHRIST sees:
A couple lose their young son when he falls out the window while they have sex in the other room. The mother’s grief consigns her to hospital, but her therapist husband brings her home intent on treating her depression himself. To confront her fears they go to stay at their remote cabin in the woods, “Eden”, where something untold happened the previous summer. Told in four chapters with a prologue and epilogue, the film details acts of lustful cruelty as the man and woman unfold the darker side of nature outside and within.
Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg (below) play He and She, the only two actors in the film.
