Long-rumored and much debated, like a creature of cryptozoology for the film industry, the sequel to DUMB AND DUMBER is finally charging forward into production with the title DUMB AND DUMBER TO.  For folks like me who prefer Jim Carrey’s dramatic work and never found the original in the least bit funny, this news means just about nothing.  But there are certainly people out there who enjoyed the antics of Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey and cannot wait for another round – it is for those of you that I bring this news: your wait is about to come to an end.

Writer/director duo The Farrelly Brothers recently revealed via Twitter that “you also might be interested to know that we are almost done with the Dumb and Dumber To (sic) script. [We] think you’re going to like it.”  So there you have it.  Obviously Jeff Daniels has his own commitments to Aaron Sorkin’s “The Newsroom” that needs be fulfilled, so he can’t start shooting until sometime in the spring of 2013.  But then they’ll shoot.  And then DUMB AND DUMBER TO will exist.  And I’ll curl up in my darkened bedroom with copies of THE MAJESTIC and ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND until its all over.

Potential plot recap as per a recent interview: “I can tell you that there is no growth out of either one of them and it’s 20 years later… these guys are in regular life and they’re still basically children at heart.  The story revolves around the fact that one of them may have sired a child. They want to go and find the child because he’s having a kidney problem and he wants to ask him for one of his kidneys.”
