As expected, Arrow Video is bringing Tony Scott’s action classic The Last Boy Scout to 4K Blu-ray this fall. According to the company, the 4K disc will arrive on October 12th. While there had been buzz that Arrow was going to include the recently discovered workprint as a bonus feature, the disc will ultimately only contain the original theatrical version, which has been restored from the original camera negative. However, the good news is that footage from the workprint will be included as a special feature, with the label indicating the release will contain “Extended & Alternate Scenes, a selection of scenes from a pre-release workprint version of the film.” This is in addition to a bevy of other bonus features, including a recent Q&A with writer Shane Black recorded at Beyond Fest, as well as a new interview with Danielle Harris, who, long before she became a scream queen in films like Rob Zombie’s Halloween, starred in this film as Bruce Willis’ daughter.
The Last Boy Scout is considered one of the greatest ’90s action films by many of us here at JoBlo. While it was only a modest box office success in 1991 (grossing $59.5 million—a solid haul, but well below the peak grosses of Bruce Willis’ biggest hits), it has since become a cult favorite, remembered for the late Tony Scott’s impeccable direction and writer Shane Black’s iconic dialogue, which is perfectly delivered by Willis as tough-guy private eye Joe Hallenbeck. The film co-stars Damon Wayans, as well as a young Halle Berry in one of her first screen roles.
