Artsploitation Films has acquired the North American distribution rights to a pair of thrillers from Shoreline Entertainment.
First up is OBSERVANCE, directed by Joseph Sims-Dennett from a screenplay he wrote with Josh Zammit. Starring Lindsay Farris, Stephanie King, and WOLF CREEK‘s John Jarratt, the film centers on
an emotionally fragile private detective whose world is gradually upended as he observes a woman from an abandoned apartment.
Artsploitation’s second Shoreline acquisition BLUE FAMILY stars Guillermo Ivan, who also co-directed the film with Ben Loggins and co-wrote the script with Amy Acosta and Christopher Marquez. Ivan plays
a pleasant young car salesman who harbors a terrifying secret – he has kidnapped three women and keeps them locked up in his basement.
Sounds like a solid pair of films, with my attention especially being drawn to OBSERVANCE, which has been compared to Roman Polanski’s THE TENANT and Alfred Hitchcock’s REAR WINDOW. It also seems to me like it’s a bit of a horror take on Francis Ford Coppola’s THE CONVERSATION. These are great movies to be reminiscent of. BLUE FAMILY is also appealing, though. Judging from its teaser trailer, it appears to mix an exploitation movie concept with some interesting visuals.
Artsploitation has not yet announced release dates for OBSERVANCE and BLUE FAMILY, but is planning to get them out sometime in early 2016.
