One of my top 5 most-anticipated of the year, Joseph Kosinski‘s OBLIVION, is set to hit theaters next month and today we have a new featurette that dives into the characters and storyline of the sci-fi pic.  Featuring interviews with Kosinski and star Tom Cruise, the featurette shows off a nice helping of new footage and will likely kick your excitement to the next level.  One of the things that caught my attention was the sound effects, from Cruise’s laser rifle to the bubblecraft he flies.  Kosinski seems really dialed in on the audio aspect of his films, based on the great sound design of TRON: LEGACY and his choice to hire M83 to do the score for OBLIVION.  To me, that kind of attention shows a true passion for the moviegoing experience.

Take a look:

Here’s the synopsis:

Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.

OBLIVION, starring Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Melissa Leo, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau hits theaters in IMAX on April 12, 2013.
